Use Your Brain for Thinking, Not Note Taking

I came across this interesting site, NoteMesh.

I find the idea of collaborating with classmates to create a set of class notes very intriguing.

Here are my thoughts:
  • Less thought spent concentrating on taking notes during class (theoretically)
  • More time being engaged during class time because most will contribute to the notes and share the burden of note taking (theoretically)
  • "Your" notes improve as more people contribute, edit, and review them
  • You get a tighter focused set of notes that becomes a better study guide
  • A dialogue on the class material develops as the class notes are edited and that helps contribute to your learning of the material
What do you guys think? Any thoughts?

M@,
that's a great idea. We could set up our own Wiki page (ex. www.pbwiki.com) to do something like this. My only concern is, would people be willing to take the time to transcribe notes from class onto the Wiki?

Would you?

Think about if 12 out of the 30 in class were to all contribute a little.

Also think about if you were in a class where 12 out of the 30 people were collectively taking notes, would you want to join in?

Then think of a class where everyone was taking notes this way?

Sure, I would do it. But i think that ONLY those that contribute should be privy to the wiki. Wouldn't be fair otherwise for 12 people to put in time and then everyone else benefits...is that selfish?

I understand. But I think that discourages participation in the long run.

I don't contribute to Wikipedia but I sure use the heck out it.
